Welcome Habitat for Humanity

Posted by Jeff Davis on Thu, Feb 23, 2017 @ 09:15 AM

As you know, Thrive specializes in building mobile friendly, brand compliant websites for nonprofits like the YMCA. Recently we expanded to include websites for Habitat for Humanity. I’ll tell you how we ended up doing work for nonprofits in a minute. So far, we have launched more than 75 websites supporting various non profits.

First, join us in celebrating the launch of new the Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity website. It launched late last year and has been a motivating factor in Thrive's decision to use 2017 as a launching point for aggressively developing a program similar to our ySite program, dedicated to building more websites for Habitat for Humanity across the country.

In a moment I will tell you why we are celebrating, but first I would like to share a quick story.

Thrive has been building websites for local businesses since the 1990’s. We have worked with restaurants, governmental agencies, mystery shoppers, health care providers, eCommerce businesses, The Arts Commission and The Opera. Hundreds of successful website launches. Toledo.com is one of our businesses.

But an interesting thing happened on March 12th, 2010. An event that changed the direction of Thrive. The editor of Toledo.com, John Eikost, came to Ian Hartten, our founder, with an interesting proposition. You see, John is a lifelong member of the Toledo YMCA and a member of their Marketing Committee. The Y needed a new website and since Thrive specialized in building websites, perhaps there was something we could do to help. So Ian promised he would look into it and see what we could do.

If we decide to tackle a project, we will only do it if we have the opportunity to do world class work. So we met with the leadership of the Toledo YMCA and started asking questions.

Six months later the YMCA of Greater Toledo website was launched.

We were happy to contribute to our local YMCA and support the great work they are doing. It helps to give back to your community. And we went back to work. Now several years have passed and we have launched more than 60 ySites for local YMCAs across America, including the latest version for Toledo.

Recently John approached Ian again. This time he said “the Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity needs our help. The national chapter has released new guidelines for websites and they need to redo their website.” So we met with the leadership of the Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity and started asking questions. This resulted in the recent launch of their new website. And the birth of a new opportunity for Thrive. A cause for celebration.

We have taken a lot of the lessons we have learned working with local YMCAs and transferred them to our Habitat For Humanity website template. We added functionality to support the recruitment of volunteers and made room to talk about home ownership and repairs. It also gives a digital home to ReStore and allows for online Donations.

Our new platform is brand compliant and mobile responsive (59% of site traffic to the Maumee Valley Habitat For Humanity is on mobile devices).
