My Very Best Advice for Exceptional SEO Results

Posted by Jeff Davis on Mon, Feb 06, 2017 @ 11:15 AM

Rarely a week goes by that we aren't asked by a client how to improve their SEO Results. My advice?

Stop trying.

That's right, stop trying.

Google does a great job of ranking search results based on what it believes provides the very best answers to each query. While we used to be able to "game" the search results to some extent, those days are pretty much behind us. We have published a number of recent articles on this topic - here is a link to one - SEO in 6 Steps

So rather than talking about what not to do, here is what I suggest.

Write for your clients, not Google.

Do you remember how excited you were when you first launched your website? You were going to take the world by storm. "How many hits did we get yesterday?" "How many orders did we have?" "Which page is getting the most visits?"

You were focused on your clients/prospects and their behavior.

Now you are focused on Google search results. An outcome that is out of your control. Give up.

Get back to focusing on solving your client's problems.

If I hear one more time - "But SEO is free advertising!" Horse plop.

Start factoring in the time you spend thinking about how to game Google. The mental energy. The hours trying to figure how to solve the wrong end of the equation. What would happen to your business if you spent that energy on existing clients and current sales prospects?

Get back to focusing on the part of the business within your control. Adhere to the SEO basics.

  • Write killer, problem solving copy
  • Make sure your site is mobile friendly
  • Improve your page load speeds
  • Upgrade to SSL
  • Encourage and post customer reviews

If you don't, I promise some other sharp marketer will. Once and for all solving your SEO problems.
