While attempting to merge two Facebook pages for a client, we came across a major issue - the pages cannot be merged the way we wanted them to be. We created a page for their new location, wanted to maintain the same audience from the previous business since the two were coming together as one. After requesting the pages to be merged, we noticed that there are more rules for the merging of two like pages. Facebook provides a simple "merging pages" page, but there is no indication that further approval would need to be taken.
Facebook has certain stipulations that come with merging Facebook pages. Many people, ourselves included, think that pages can be merged with a simple request and, BOOM!, the pages are merged. This is not the case. If you are going to request for your pages to be merged, understand these rules first:
You cannot combine a page with less likes with a page that has more likes. The page with more likes has to be the main page to be kept, and the smaller likes page is to be merged with it.
The name of a page previously created cannot be changed unless the likes are under 200. Once they are over 200, you have to submit a request with Facebook and upload proof that the business has that name and address information. This means a utility or phone bill. Unfortunately, logos and websites are not valid forms to be used for approval on name changes.
